$15 million Apprenticeship Program Completed in Around Town
The British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) has announced completion of the Apprenticeship Services program, funded by the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy. The program closed on March 31st, 2024.
Employers who registered up to four first-year apprentices in BCCA’s Apprenticeship Services program could have qualified to earn up to $40,000 in cash incentives over two years. The province-wide initiative was delivered to small- and medium-sized construction employers to help them overcome the financial barriers inherent in hiring and training first-year apprentices.
Since launching in September 2022, the financial incentives resulted in the hiring and registering of 2075 apprentices in 37 Red Seal trades, and sent payments to more than 1020 qualified employers. The initiative injected $15.725M into BC’s economy.
In addition,1338 Apprenticeship Services program employers signed the Builders Code Acceptable Worksite Culture Pledge. This was an important part of the BCCA support and training program designed to improve worksite culture, improve and strengthen diversity, increase worker retention, and eliminate harassment, bullying, hazing and discrimination.
