2023 BC Building Codes in Around Town

The BC government has announced that the Ministry continues to review changes to the 2018 Building Codes. The changes will include updates from the 2020 National Model Codes with adjustments made to address specific needs for BC.
While the government expects to confirm the updated Codes before the end of 2023, an implementation date is not currently available. The Construction Codes Reconciliation Agreement commits bringing these codes into effect within 24 months from release.
BC-specific code changes are open to public review before they are finalized. Information about current or recent BC reviews can be found on the Public Review page.
Once the new codes are adopted, a transition period will provide local governments and the construction industry time to adapt and adjust their practices.
