Housing Construction information available for the end of March 2019 reports continued growth from Nanaimo to the Comox Valley. According to the stats, Campbell River is the only reported area on the Central North Island to currently show a decline in the year to date (YTD) housing starts while Nanaimo reports a 96% increase. 

Comox Valley:  422 dwellings under construction with 143 single family homes and 247 apartments. 97 housing starts are recorded for the first quarter this year compared to 84 for last years first quarter.

Campbell River: 138 dwellings under construction with 38 single and 84 apartments. 44 starts for the first quarter vs 25 in 2018.

Nanaimo: 887 dwellings under construction with 221 single and 614 apartments. 277 starts for the first quarter vs 141 for 2018.

Parksville: 220 dwellings under construction with 89 single and 127 apartments.  81 starts for the first quarter vs 34 for 2018.
