BC Mass Timber Demonstration Program In Around Town

October 3, 2024

The deadline to submit Expression of Interest for the fourth intake of the Mass Timber Demonstration Program (MTDP) closes on October 21st.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply to the fourth intake of the Mass Timber Demonstration Program (MTDP). Applications will be accepted until 20:00 on October 21st.

BC has allowed encapsulated mass timber construction up to 18 stories tall since April 2024. However, barriers remain when constructing these projects, including a lack of knowledge, technical performance, constructability and incremental costs.

Successful applicants may be eligible to receive up to $500,000.00 towards the incremental costs in the design and construction of their new mass timber or mass timber hybrid buildings.

Established in the Spring of 2021, the Mass Timber Demonstration Program (MTDP) is a collaboration between Forestry Innovation Investment (FII) and the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation. The Program looks to maximize the use of mass timber in BC with the goal of supporting jobs, economic development, and BC ability to be a global leader in advanced wood product and system technologies and services.

The focus of the Program will be to support near term costs that will help accelerate the use of mass timber and support B.C.’s economic recovery. Information, materials, and lessons learned will be shared with B.C.’s building industry with the goal of growing the mass timber construction sector.
