BC Hydro Awards Contract for Buckley Bay Substation to Houle Electric Ltd.
BC Hydro has awarded the contract to build a new electricity substation between Buckley Bay and Union Bay to Houle Electric Ltd. They will build the substation; supply and assemble the electrical equipment; and provide protection and control requirements. Construction will start almost immediately. The project will also create about 30 new jobs. The value of the contract has not been released, but the overall budget for the project was $28 million.
BC Hydro Expected to Announce Preferred Contractor for John Hart Project in November
BC Hydro anticipates announcing the preferred contractor for the John Hart Project in early to mid-November. BC Hydro and the contractor will then enter a period of final negotiations until the contract is signed in early 2014. BC Hydro plans to open the new access road, parking lot, and trail to Elk Falls Provincial Park on November 8, 2013. The current park entrance off Brewster Lake Road, beside the John Hart Dam, will remain open to the public until the closure of Brewster Lake Road across the dam. The billion-dollar John Hart project remains on budget and on target for the 2018 in-service date. The project is expected to create an average of 400 jobs per year, peaking at about 500 in the second year of construction.
