Comox Valley and Campbell River 3rd Quarter Building Permit Statistics In Around Town

This week’s issue includes year-to-date Building Permit statistics for 2023. Comparing the year-to-date 2022 and 2023 building permits for the Comox Valley and Campbell River, total construction values increased from $286,847,887 to $341,249,180.  The number of permits issued, however, shows a 2% decrease from 676 in 2022 to 664 in 2023. As a comparison, the same period in 2021 had 886 permits with a total value of $337,265,202.

The BC Construction Association has released their Fall 2023 Industry Stat Pack.  While the demand for construction remains high, the estimated value of proposed major projects has dipped to $174B in comparison to $220B last year, signalling possible future decreases.

Last month, 266 single-family homes sold in the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) area, an 11 per cent increase from one year ago (239) and down 18 per cent from August 2023 (324). Sales of condo apartments came in at 85 units, increasing by 63 per cent from September 2022. In the row/townhouse category, 71 units sold, up by 48 per cent.
