November Real Estate Market Update in Around Town

Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) recorded 566 unit sales board-wide (all property types) in November. 267 single-family homes sold, up 14 per cent from November 2023. Sales of condos came in at 62 units, increasing by 13 per cent. In the row/townhouse category, 76 units sold, up 58 per cent from 2023.

CMHC’s Fall 2024 Housing Supply Report focuses on Canada’s Metropolitan Areas

Adding to last week’s Around Town, the CMHC Fall 2024 Housing Supply Report reported multi-unit housing starts in Vancouver fell in the first half of 2024 as development, land, and financing costs negatively impacted project profitability.

Housing Starts down in Vancouver in this week’s Around Town

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. says the annual pace of housing starts in October rose eight per cent compared with September, with seven percent in multi-unit starts. The Prairies, Quebec and Atlantic provinces have seen higher activity this year, while Ontario and B.C. recorded declines.

Quarterly Building Permit Statistics in Around Town

Comparing the year-to-date 2023 and 2024 building permits for the Comox Valley and Campbell River, the number of permits for single and secondary family decreased by only 2% with decreases in Comox and Cumberland offset by increases in Campbell River and Courtenay.
