Twenty five years ago in July of 1993, the 18 hole championship golf course at Crown Isle Resort and Golf Course opened. The 48,000 sq. ft. clubhouse followed in 1998, and Crown Isle quickly became a centre-piece in the Comox Valley. Over 1,100 homes have been built in the Crown Isle Community since then. There is capacity to build an additional 1,600 homes in the future. (more…)
On July 16, the BC NDP announced details about an agreement with the Allied Infrastructure and Related Construction Council, a conglomerate of American-based Building Trade Unions (BTU). While any company — union or non-union — can bid on a public infrastructure contract, the new Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) requires that all workers on public infrastructure projects join the BTU within 30 days. Compared to 2017, the 2018 second quarter construction value for the Comox Valley and Campbell River has increased by 54% or $51 million, with the construction of multi-family residential units and commercial builds contributing to most of the increases. (more…)
Housing demand in the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) area, Duncan to Port Hardy, has shifted lower in the first half of 2018. Despite lower sales thus far, lack of inventory continues to tilt the market in favour of sellers and push prices upwards.
