Building Permits Quarterly Statistics In Around Town
The Comox Valley to Campbell River building permit total values for the first quarter of 2024 have increased by 51% compared to the first quarter in 2023. However, that is due to a $45,000,000 permit for renovations to the Strathcona Recreation Centre in Campbell River. Without that permit, total values for the first quarter would have decreased by 16%.
Single family permit values are 10% higher with 1 more permit than the first quarter in 2023. Multi family values are 68% lower with 44 compared to 140 units for the same period in 2023. Residential renovation values are also down by 23% with the number of permits down from 94 in 2023 to 72 this year.
When comparing total residential units to the 1st quarter in previous years, the 108 units so far this year are the lowest on record for several years. There were 199 units in the first quarter 2023, 245 units for 2022, 296 for 2021, 222 in 2020, and 219 in 2019.
