Community Housing Funding through BC Housing in Around Town
Your Weekly Construction Briefing
The B.C. government has announced it will fund the construction of 3,500 new affordable rental homes through the Building BC: Community Housing Fund (CHF).
BC Housing is inviting non-profit and Indigenous housing societies, First Nations, housing co-operatives and municipalities to propose new affordable housing projects for the intake of the CHF. Public/private partnerships are allowable if they work with one of these groups.
Rents for housing built through the CHF program must be set at 30 per cent of the renter’s incomes. Under the program, 20 per cent of the residents will be those with very low incomes, including those on disability assistance. Proposals will be accepted until November 17. The government says it will prioritize projects based on need.
The the CHF was created by the Province 2018 to build 20,000 affordable rental homes for people with moderate and low incomes by 2031-32. The CHF has now received additional funds for 6,000 more new homes. Over the next four years, the plan is to issue more CHF proposal calls and allocate the remaining units.
