Congratulations to Winners at VIREB Commercial Building Awards
An overflow crowd was on hand to see the Nanaimo Train Station receive the Judges Choice Award as best overall entry in the Sixth Annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards, which were recently held at the Coast Bastion Inn. The building, which was restored in large part due to the fund raising efforts of Young Professionals of Nanaimo, also won the Excellence Award in the Heritage category at the awards.
A record 51 nominations were received for the awards from the various communities throughout the VIREB area. A new award presented this year – The Fortis BC Green Award – went to Brentwood College School Centre for Arts & Humanities (Mill Bay).
Excellence Award winners were announced in the following categories:
- Industrial – Driftwood Place of Port Alberni
- Senior/Assisted Housing – Ts’i’ts’uwatul’ Lelum Assisted Living of Duncan
- Community Institutional – Alberni District Secondary School of Port Alberni
- Retail – TD Bank and Country Grocer of Nanaimo
- Office Reno – Ramsay Lampman Rhodes of Nanaimo
- Commercial Reno – Auto Check Automotive building of Nanaimo
- Office – City of Nanaimo Service & Resource Centre of Nanaimo
- Heritage – Nanaimo train station of Nanaimo
- Community Enhancement – Mill Bay Marina of Mill Bay;
Awards of Merit went to:
- Mixed Use – The Moorage, Phase 2 of Ucluelet and Marinaside Resort of Nanaimo
- Industrial – Greg’s RV Place of Duncan and Dog n’ Suds of Nanaimo
- Senior/Assisted Housing – CMHA Supported Housing of Nanaimo and Nikola Road Group Home and Affordable Rental Housing of Campbell River
-  Community Institutitional – Gabriola Community Health Centre of Gabriola Island, the new Emergency wing at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and Brentwood College School of Centre Arts & Humanities of Mill Bay
- Retail – Prime Chophouse & Wine Bar of Courtenay
- Office Reno – Tourism Nanaimo Visitor Centre
- Commercial Reno – Port Place Mall Building A of Nanaimo
