Development Permit Application Submitted for 94 New Rental Housing Units in Courtenay on Vancouver Island
A development permit application has been submitted to the City of Courtenay to allow for the development of two identical buildings, which will contain 47 units each for a total of 94 rental units. This new project will be located at the south end of Cliffe Avenue, across from the Anfield Mall where Walmart is located. This application is expected to be presented to council for consideration in the next few months. The owner, Crowne Pacific Development Corp. will be self contracting on this project and plans to start construction once all approvals are in place.
BC Hydro has issued a tender for Civil, Electrical, Protection and Control and Distribution Construction for the Buckley Bay and South Wellington electricity substations. The Buckley Bay project is intended to ensure areas south of Courtenay have enough power for the next 30 years. Each project is estimated to cost between $28 to $30 million to construct. The City of Powell River has awarded the tender for a retrofit of the Aquatic Centre HVAC and heating system to Coral Engineering Ltd., a company based out of Calgary with offices in Surrey and Campbell River in the amount of $618,000.
