Residential construction is up in all municipalities in the Campbell River and Comox Valley regions, by 57% this quarter compared to 2016
We feature the first quarter construction statistics in this week’s issue, which shows a dramatic increase in the residential sector in the Comox Valley and Campbell River regions. Single family dwelling starts are up by 57% overall, with the biggest increase occurring in Campbell River which showed a 100% increase in the new homes started this year, compared to the same period last year. Total construction values are $45.3 million compared to $37.2 million in 2016, a 24% increase.
The Construction Program and Real Property Projects at Defense Construction Canada in Lazo, BC will consist of multi-trade and single trade, construction projects of varying sizes and complexity.
Defense Construction Canada has published two advance notices of potential upcoming projects for Defence Construction Canada at 19 Wing Comox. The Construction Program and Real Property Projects will consist of multi-trade and single trade, construction projects of varying sizes and complexity. The program may include, but is not limited to new construction, repair, renovations, civil works and maintenance of Department of National Defence (DND) infrastructure in support of Canadian Forces Operations. Additional technical services supporting the program may also include, but not limited to land surveying, materials testing, geological, and environmental studies, architectural and engineering design. Overall program value is estimated at $30,000,000 with the maximum value of any individual project of $5,000,000.
M’akola Housing Society will own and operate the former Travelodge building in Campbell River to provide 40 affordable housing units.
The Province announced April 7 that it will invest $5.1 million to purchase and renovate the former Travelodge at 340 South Island Highway for affordable housing units in Campbell River. M’akola Housing Society will own and operate the building consisting of 40 units.
