The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), School District #71 (SD71) and the City of Courtenay have successfully completed the sale and exchange of land as part of the tri-party agreement. In the first phase, the CVRD will purchase a vacant piece of land on Harmston Avenue from SD71 upon which a new regional office would be constructed.
Construction underway for  Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society’s (MARS) new wildlife hospital and interpretive centre at 7350 Island Highway
Construction of the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society’s (MARS) new wildlife hospital and interpretive centre at 7350 Island Highway has now begun. Framing is currently underway. Some electrical work, including laying conduits to the hydro pole has already occurred. Tendering was complete earlier this year, and MARS expects the new hospital will be complete and read for occupancy in the spring of this year. This is a large million dollar project that includes the Wildlife Hospital; a Visitors Interpretative Building; an Aviary for educational or ambassador birds; a Flight Pen for large birds and future plans include housing for a caretaker and students.
Campbell River council to consider giving proposed new 97-unit apartment building third reading as early as March 6
Campbell River city council could give third reading to a proposed bylaw to rezone 1430 Island Highway South to permit a 97-unit apartment building as early as March 6th. A public meeting was held February 20, and feedback will be compiled as soon as possible. If there are no required changes to the bylaw as a result of community feedback, the proposed bylaw will go to third reading at the next available council meeting.
