Road and Trail Closures in Full Effect Around John Hart Dam Generating Station Replacement Project

May 8, 2015

A number of road and trail closures are now in full effect around the John Hart Dam Generating Station replacement project. This includes a three-year road closure of Brewster Lake Road, and closure of parts of the Millennium Trail/Canyon View Trail.

Workers at the John Hart Dam generating station replacement project put the final touches on the new Brewster Lake Road bridge for construction traffic.

Workers at the John Hart Dam generating station replacement project put the final touches on the new Brewster Lake Road bridge for construction traffic.

Brewster Lake Road was closed April 1, and will reopen at the conclusion of the replacement project. No vehicle or foot traffic is aloud along the road. The older Brewster Lake Road bridge is now being used as a worker pedestrian crossing. Construction traffic has been realigned to go over new steel construction bridge.

On June 1, the section of the Canyon View trail that crosses the generating station and intersects with the Millenium Trail will be closed off for construction. This closure will allow for trailrace construction work, and will be in effect for the duration of the project. Signage and flaggers will advise people of the work area. The public parking lot by the river off Powerhouse Road will remain open, as will trail access downstream. Once the John Hart project is complete, the closed off section of the trail will be re-established somewhere near or along the Campbell River.
