Vancouver Island Construction Association is hosting a free 15 hours (4 morning) course to help supervisors confidently discuss substance use, mental health, and pain management.
Designed specifically to equip and inform construction supervisors about the complex issues surrounding substance use and toxic drug poisoning in the construction industry.
Walk away with the confidence to recognize, support, and refer crew members in need. The course also includes 13 CPD points and 2 Goal Seal credits.
The Tailgate Toolkit Project is an innovative program aimed at increasing access to harm reduction services and ideas for those working in the construction industry.
Course content includes:
- The current toxic drug poisoning epidemic
- Why this is an issue for members of the construction industry
- Why men are disproportionately at risk of toxic drug poisoning
- Harm reduction 101
- Mental health 101
- Mental Health First Aid
- Naloxone Training
- Colonization and Trauma
- Chronic Pain
- Local resources
The course is currently funded in partnership with the BC Ministry of Mental Health & Addictions, Canadian Mental Health Association (BC Division), and the Community Action Initiative.
Days: Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri starting June 7 or July 12
