Comox: multi-million dollar upgrades at 19 Wing Comox to support new aircraft

Defence Construction Canada has issued advance notice of the potential of a $279 million construction contract for a Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Program. The program includes purchasing long-range patrol aircraft to replace the existing fleet of CP-140 Aurora aircraft and new infrastructure and renovations to existing infrastructure to support the new aircraft. The new aircraft are to be based at Canadian Forces Base 14 Wing Greenwood, NS, and CFB 19 Wing Comox, BC. It is currently anticipated that most requirements to support this program will be delivered through multiple Modified-Design Build (MDB) contracts (anticipated two at each Base). This advance notice is for the following potential contract: MDB in support of Hangar Construction (rough order-of-magnitude value – $279M), Design development, construction drawings, and specifications for a new 3-bay maintenance hangar at CFB 19 Wing Comox Construct the new 3-bay maintenance hangar, which will tentatively include three first-line maintenance bays, workshops, storage, and administrative office space, and Design and Construct a new Tactical Operations Centre (TOC). It is anticipated that this solicitation will be initiated in Spring 2025. This is conditional on receiving approval to proceed by the Department of National Defence (DND). This is an advance notice for a potential contract with anticipated security requirements to provide interested consultants and/or contractors an opportunity to begin the sponsorship process for obtaining (if required) the anticipated security clearance(s). Courtenay: new 36-unit mixed-use residential and commercial building

A development variance permit for a 5,046m² (54,300 sq.ft.) mixed-use residential and commercial building at England Avenue and 4th Street received council approval on December 11. The project is now moving forward, with building permit drawings currently underway. The four-storey building will include 36 residential apartments on the top three floors, featuring six micro-units, 7 one-bedroom units, 21 two-bedroom units, and 3 three-bedroom units. The ground floor will house commercial spaces, which may be available for lease or purchase. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2025, pending final approvals.
