Cumberland: Construction for a new childcare centre is expected to begin in early 2022.
The Village of Cumberland has been awarded $2.95 million for 85 new childcare spaces to be constructed on the grounds of the Cumberland Community School. Village staff have begun the process of engaging qualified project architects with experience in designing licensed childcare and educational facilities. Staff anticipate construction may begin in early 2022 with the facility operational by early 2023. The project will be partnership between the Village and School District 71.
Port Alberni: The hospital is expanding with a $4 million renovation.
The Port Alberni hospital is expanding. A $4 million building permit has been issued for the addition of over 2400 sq.ft. including extra space for patients, improvements to the triage and admitting area, and a separate entrance for ambulances. Kinetic Construction will be building the expansion, and construction is expected to be complete late in 2022.
Campbell River: Potential addition of leasable lands near the Airport.
The City of Campbell River and the Campbell River Airport are reviewing options to expand the leasable lands available near the Airport, including reviewing bylaws related to subdivision, development and services. The airport has two unused serviced lots, however, contamination deems them unusable at this time. Remaining existing leasable lots are un-serviced and too large for some potential customer’s needs, requiring a subdivision.
