Courtenay: Development application submitted for 56 townhomes and 23 micro-units.
The City of Courtenay has received a development application for 56 townhomes and 23 micro-units. The approx. 10 acre development site consists of three properties, wetland areas, and an existing onsite dry pond constructed in approximately 2011. There are two phases to this project. This application is for Phase One. Phase Two is expected to include two and three bedroom townhomes, and will be announced at a later date. The site is located on the north-east side of Arden Road and to the south-east of Tarling Park, near Lake Trail Road. The project meets all bylaw requirements and we are seeking no additional variances.
Campbell River: New luxury waterfront 24 unit building will be under construction shortly.
A building permit is expected to be issued within the week and site construction is expected to be underway immediately for this luxury waterfront building. The five storey 24 unit building will include gym, air conditioning, and allow rentals and pets. Units are a combination of one, two and three bedrooms. Key amenities in the five storey building will include a fitness facility, in-suite laundry, secure bike storage, a common area outdoor patio and underground parking. Each dwelling includes a large outdoor living space that features ocean views from each unit. Rentals will be allowed. This building is scheduled for completion in late 2022.
Tofino:Â First of two affordable apartment buildings will be under construction within a few weeks.
Construction is expected to begin within a few weeks on the first building in an affordable housing project in Tofino. The project was recently named Headwaters, and includes a total of 78 units within two multi family buildings and 3 duplexes. The first building will have 35 units. Tofino Housing Corporation and Catalyst Community Developments are working together to build the units. Construction on the second apartment building is expected to begin in 2022. The Community Housing Fund will be providing a capital grant of approximately $7.7 million to the two rental housing projects and an ongoing operating subsidy. A mix of studio and 1 to 3 bedroom units will be rented at a range of different rents. The first units will be move-in ready in the spring of 2023.
