Courtenay: DP approved for Phase 1 of a 104 unit multi-residential development.
A Development Permit for Phase 1 of a 104-unit multi- residential development in Courtenay has been approved. All 3 Phases include a 40-unit apartment building, 28 townhomes, and a 36 unit apartment building. Phase 1 includes a 40 unit, 3 storey, family housing rental building with 5 studio, 5 one bedroom, 16 two bedroom, 12 three bedroom, and 2 four bedroom units. The units will range in size from 278 sq.ft, to 1249 sq.ft. and laundry will be a common room on each floor instead of in-suite laundry. An Official Community Plan and Zoning Amendment bylaw was adopted by council in May, following a reduction in the project density and a second public hearing. A Development Permit application for Phase 2, including 28 townhomes in 6 buildings was submitted in June 2021.
Powell River: DP approval for two apartment buildings expected at next council meeting.
Powell River is moving ahead with approvals for 141 rental units in two buildings. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2022. The Committee of the Whole supports a Development Variance Permit to relax the required front and side setbacks, and has referred the application to council for approval. The multi-family residential development includes 141 units in two buildings at the corner of Joyce and Edgehill. The units are comprised of 20 micro (312 sq. ft.), five studios (571 sq. ft), 40 one-bedroom (571 to 719 sq. ft), and 76 two-bedroom (846 to 1190 sq. ft.) units, and will include 10 affordable housing units for 10 years. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2022.
Campbell River: Staff reviewing a new application for a 80-unit apartment building.
Campbell River staff are reviewing a new DP application for a six-storey, 80-unit, market rental apartment building. The semi waterfront property was purchased in February for $1.4 million, which was $151,000 above asking. When the property was listed it included a 1974 single family home and 10 mobile home pads, fully rented. The applicant is proposing a mix of unit types including 30 two bedroom, 35 one bedroom, and 15 studios apartments.
