Cumberland: School District 71 is seeking a Construction Manager for the new Cumberland Childcare Centre.

School District No.71 (SD71) has issued a tender for a Construction Management firm to work with SD71, its Architect and sub-consultants, on the development of a new Childcare Centre on Egremont Road in the Village of Cumberland. The Village of Cumberland was awarded $2.95 million in 2021 for 85 new childcare spaces to be built as the Cumberland Childcare Centre on the site owned by SD71 and shared with Cumberland Community Elementary School. The elementary school will remain in full operation during the construction of the childcare building. The current project schedule has construction activities starting in the spring of 2022 and completing approximately a year later. The new facility is to be occupied and ready to accept occupants for the start of the 2023/2024 school year. This tender closes March 3; see our tender section for more information. SD71 is also planning to build two more childcare facilities. If the applied grants are approved, the successful proponent of this RFP may be supplying the Construction Management Services for all three projects.

Campbell River: Construction on the new 55 unit Women’s Housing project will begin soon.

The budget has been finalized and site preparation is underway. Construction on the 55 unit four-storey building will begin soon. This project will include units for second-stage housing and affordable housing, as well as 1,543 sq. ft. of commercial space on the ground level. The building is scheduled for completion in September of 2023. BC Housing is providing approximately $19.7 million in capital costs for the project through the Women’s Transition Housing Fund. The Campbell River and North Island Transition Society will manage the new building.
