Comox: Building permit issued for new 156-bed residential care home

A building permit for $36,491,961 has been issued to Lark Projects for the construction of this 156-bed residential care home. The $52.6 million project is expected to be completed in 2024. Upon completion of the project, portions of the former hospital building will be demolished while the remaining existing buildings remain as-is until the next phase of the development. Future site development includes the potential for affordable and seniors housing projects.

Tofino: District proceeding with detailed design for Indoor Recreation Facility.

The District is proceeding with a class B detailed design and construction cost estimate for a community recreation facility in the amount of $125,000, and will re-engage Studio 531 thru an existing contract to undertake the design work. The District also plans to engage a third-party construction cost estimator to work with the District and Studio 531. The 2020 cost estimate was $7.2 million. The Indoor Recreation Facility project is a 1,190 m2 facility consisting of a gymnasium and bleachers, washrooms/change rooms, storage, fitness room, small office, multi-purpose room, and entrance. The proposed construction start date is late 2024 with completion in 2026.

Campbell River: South sanitary sewer upgrades allow for 28-unit strata project to proceed.

After delays due to sewer capacity issues, this 28 unit project is now moving forward. Sewer upgrades are being completed in 3 separate phases, with Phase 1 now complete. The completed upgrades are sufficient for the development to start construction while the final 2 phases are completed. The developer will soon be installing services and roads, and the builder is preparing the disclosure statement so that pre-sales can occur. The realtors are collecting expressions of interest through the project site – arizonaheights.ca. In July 2021, Council approved a Major Development Permit with Variance, subject to a revised landscaping plan and a general landscaping performance security. As proposed the project is a mix of unit types with two storey units and two styles of single storey designs, ranging in size from 1502 sq.ft. to 2365 sq.ft.
