Fanny Bay: DP approved for a new 51Â site campground.
The Electoral Area Services committee has approved a commercial and industrial development permit application for a campground with 51 sites, a caretaker residence, two cabins and several related buildings on a 3.71 acre lot on Holiday Road, Fanny Bay. The application was submitted in March of this year and the property is already zoned Tourism Commercial Two. The applicant is proposing 43 drive-in sites and eight walk-in only sites, 2 cabins, a single detached dwelling for a caretaker, and related buildings including office, kitchen, dining hall, meditation space, recreational facilities, washrooms and showers. The sites are for temporary stays of up to six months in a 12 month period. The site plan shows two well sites, a septic tank and three septic fields. The applicant has been advised that the private onsite septic system will require approval from Island Health at the building permit stage. The Rainwater Management Plan incorporates gravel roads, gravel pads for RVs and campsites. Between these sites, a permeable gravel vegetated swale area is proposed to pond water during heaving rainfall. A security deposit, $126,250, at 125 per cent of the estimate, is required prior to the execution of the development permit.
