Courtenay: Aquatics Study recommends expanding the Aquatic Centre.
A draft Comox Valley Aquatics Strategy commissioned by the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and the City of Courtenay has been presented to City Council and the Comox Valley Recreation Commission. The focus is on the condition and future of the Outdoor Pool, Aquatic Centre and Sports Centre. The draft considers 5 options including maintaining Status Quo, constructing a new outdoor pool at the current site, considering a new site for the outdoor pool, consolidation of the Outdoor and Sports Centre Wellness Centre and Pool to the Aquatic Centre Site, or a Full Build for all aquatic needs at a New Site. Cost estimates range from $17 to $90 million. The CVRD is accepting feedback from the community until March 6 at comoxvalleyrd.ca/aquaticstrategy.
Campbell River: Three multi-family buildings proposed to include 200 units.
The Director of Planning is reviewing the Environmental and Form and Character Development Permits for this 59 unit condominium project. WestUrban Developments Ltd. is proposing 5 two-storey multi-residential buildings, each with 10 to 15 units. The proposed development is in alignment with the Official Community Plan and the regulations of the Zoning Bylaw, with the exception of proposed Building B that would require a variance to the height to allow a height of 13.5 metres. As originally proposed, the buildings will primarily consist of two-bedroom condo units, each with a private balcony and dual aspect windows and entrances to maximize opportunities for natural light and ventilation. Parking will include underground, surface and 36 ancillary private garages. The property is a combination of 1509 and 1518 Vanstone Road for a total of approx. 4.158 acres with an estimated 45% of the property left in its natural state.
Powell River: Rezoning approved for 35 lots.
Council has adopted a rezoning application for a 5.31 acre property on Manson Avenue. Final reading will be considered after a 219 restrictive covenant requiring, that at the time of future subdivision(s), amenity cash contributions of $700 per lot be paid to the City. The rezoning changes the property from A1 to CD4 (Comprehensive Development Four – Residential Small Lots). The developer intends to create an affordable neighbourhood for families with approximately 35 lots.
