Comox: proposed 780 multi-family apartments, 36 townhomes, 2,000 sq.m. commercial.

Comox has received applications for a major development proposal for a multi-family residential and mixed use development located between Hector and Aspen Roads. To facilitate a mixed-use development, inclusion in the Comox Official Community Plan Bylaw 1685 and Comox Zoning Bylaw 1850 is proposed. The project is proposed to consist of 780 multi-family apartments and 36 townhomes, including a 2,000 sq.m. commercial component. The development would be constructed in several phases. Some phases of the development are expected to require changes to the Comox Airport Zoning Regulations which restricts building height to 9 meters. The Town of Comox has requested assistance from the Minister of National Defence to harmonize the outdated regulation with Transport Canada Regulations. This application was presented to council on June 7 and a date for a public hearing will be announced soon.

Campbell River: 20 unit condo, two building complex with carports.

City staff are reviewing a Minor Development Permit for a 20 unit condo complex with two buildings. Each building consists of 10, 2 bedroom, 2 baths units stacked on top of one another with either a deck or ground floor patio. 48 parking spots will be provided via two timber clad carports for 24 cars, each with a small storage area, 4 visitor parking, and 20 uncovered spots. The units are expected to be available for sale. The 1.63 acre property was rezoned for a maximum of 20 townhomes in 2022, listed for $890,000 late 2022 and sold for $815,000 in March 2023.

Tahsis: Tender issued for Flood Protection Improvements.

The Village of Tahsis through McElhanny has issued a tender for the Flood Protection Improvement Project. The Village has received $1.896 million to cover the estimated project cost. The scope of the work includes all requirements for the construction of the North Maquinna Road lock block floodwall improvements including raising the wall with Owner supplied lock-blocks, outlet flap gate replacements, and embankment rip rap armouring. Scope also includes berm construction behind properties on Alpine View Road connecting to the existing Boston Street Pond. This tender closes July 4.
