Port Alberni invites bidders for the completion of the Roger Creek Trail Project, which consists of the extension of the existing Roger Creek Trail a further 440 meters downstream from its current location, and the installation of a new pedestrian bridge crossing of Rogers Creek. The City received $435,978 in grant funding to connect Roger Creek Park with the Scott Kenny Trail network including improvements to bank stability.

Courtenay: Construction is underway for 5 new apartment buildings.

Five new apartment buildings are now under construction in the City of Courtenay. The projects include over 300 rental and affordable housing units with building permits totalling over $53 million. Projects include a 40 unit affordable housing development for indigenous elders and singles on McPhee Avenue; a 247 unit rental project in three buildings including 24 affordable housing units on Ryan Road; and 48 unit rental development as part of a three phase residential development on Mission Road. Units are a range of bachelor, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units. A waitlist is available for units in the future Glenhart Views on Ryan Road.

Campbell River: School District working on six new child care centres this summer.

The City has issued two building permits for new Child Care Facilities in Campbell River, including one at Cedar Elementary for $734,000 and Ripple Rock Elementary for $739,000. Both of those permits have been issued to Qualifast Contracting Ltd. (Vancouver). Three other daycare centres are also expecting approval over the next month, including Georgia Park Elementary, Sandowne Elementary, and Pinecrest Elementary. A sixth centre will also be built at Ocean Grove Elementary, south of the City within the Strathcona Regional District. A permit for $991,042 was issued to the School District in May for that project. Each site will include up to thirty spaces for before and after school care, with grant funding received by the province. Campbell River City Council has agreed to waive development and building permit fees, and fund the remaining city assessed fees associated with the projects through the community development account for the five centres within the City.
