Alberni-Clayoquot: Transportation committee to review alternative road options for the Alberni Valley. Â
The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is forming a transportation committee to prioritize transportation options and collectively advocate for options to higher levels of governments. The scope of work could include a secondary route in and out of the Alberni Valley, the Bamfield Road, the Bamfield/Cowichan Route, and route to the West Coast. The Committee is expected to include up to 23 members including Council, Business Members, Chamber of Commerce, First Nations and Forestry. The ACRD will focus on the development of an accurate business case and business plan that shows which route will have the greatest economic impact. Staff will begin soliciting potential committee members with an inaugural meeting in fall 2023.
Cumberland: Tender issued for road, storm, sanitary, and watermain upgrades along 4 locations.
The Village of Cumberland is seeking a qualified contractor to complete its 2023 Capital Works Roads and Utilities projects. Summary details include: Infrastructure and road upgrades including curb and gutter and sidewalks; and replacement of storm, sanitary, and watermain (multiple locations). Locations include 4 projects with Maryport Avenue and Silecroft Road, Ambleside Avenue and Second Street, First Street, and Union Road. This tender closes August 31.
Courtenay: Rezoning application moving forward for over 40 acres at Crown Isle.
A rezoning application for three pieces of property within the Crown Isle resort is moving forward. The properties total approx. 45 acres with the intention of a new four phased 40 acres subdivision extending Britannia Way, Royal Vista Way and Lanyon Road. The application was originally received in June 2019 and included both an OCP amendment (from undesignated land use to mixed use) and Zoning Bylaw amendment given the lands had been annexed into the City of Courtenay in 2013. The first and second readings were given in 2020, with a third reading deferred to allow staff and the developer time to review other considerations. Since that time, the OCP has been updated and designates the property as Urban Residential which supports the rezoning application. If approved, the project could include 330 units with 122 single family with secondary suites with a minimum 400m2 lot size, and 208 duplexes or multi-family units. City staff and the applicant have commenced work on a Phased Development Agreement required before consideration of Third Reading.
