Port Alberni: City seeking contractor to demolish buildings on the former Sawmill site.
The City of Port Alberni is issuing a Request for Proposal for demolition and recovery efforts for a 700 m2 wood and metal framed building on the former Somass Division Sawmill site. The City’s ideal partner will offer innovative ideas to get as close to net zero waste as possible in deconstructing and removing salvage materials from the site. Further, the City hopes to achieve a revenue neutral (or near revenue neutral) solution by maximizing proceeds provided by salvage materials. Subject to satisfactory performance of the successful Bidder, the City shall reserve the right to work with the successful Bidder to deconstruct any other buildings on the site. The City issued demolition permits for 13 buildings earlier this month. This tender closes October 18.
Comox Valley Regional District: Proposed new NHL size ice surface with spectator seating, dressing rooms, and walking track.
Following a 2019 recreation study and community feedback in June of this year, the Comox Valley Regional District is seeking proposals from suitability qualified architectural firms, with significant experience in large scale public recreation projects. The project includes the feasibility of constructing an NHL size ice surface with spectator seating for 1,500 to 2,000, 6 to 8 dressing rooms, walking track and parking at the Comox Valley Sports Centre at 3001 Vanier Drive in Courtenay. This tender closes October 13.
Campbell River: Council considering recreational vehicles for year-round occupancy.
City Council is looking into options to permit recreational vehicles for year-round occupancy. At this time, residing in recreational vehicles is only permitted on the site and during the course of residential building construction. Council is expected to discuss the option at the October 12 meeting. If the motion is passed, Council will request a staff report with options that more broadly permit the year-round occupancy of recreational vehicles in the City of Campbell River.
