Port Alberni: zoning approved for five storey 25-unit condo building
A Zoning Amendment for 3045, 3053, 3063 Kingsway Avenue has been adopted. The bylaw enables a 25-unit five storey multi-residential development at 3045, 3053 and 3063 Kingsway Avenue in the uptown commercial area of the South Port neighbourhood. As proposed, the units are intended for purchasers interested in luxury condos.
Comox Valley: information session for proposed mandatory septic regulatory program
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is hosting a drop-in Septic Regulation Information Session Monday, April 29 at the Regional District Office between 5 and 7 pm. The CVRD is considering a septic regulatory program to help reduce the impacts of sewage contamination in sensitive water courses. Proposed program includes: Inspection-based program for high-risk areas, with mandatory pump-outs in all areas; Creation of a regulatory bylaw mandating septic inspections in identified high-risk areas and periodic pump-outs for Type 1 systems (i.e. every five years) and annual maintenance in accordance with the system maintenance plan for Type 2 and 3 systems for all areas; All pump-outs, maintenance and inspections would be coordinated and arranged by individual property owners; Incentives for septic system inspections and/or upgrades may also be included dependent on program resources. Port Hardy: district providing land for up to 24 unit housing project
The District of Port Hardy has agreed to provide land for a 18 to 24 unit supportive housing project. The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEHS) had requested land from the district back in December, with a plan to create the Sanala Culturally Supportive Housing Society. The size of the project would be scaled based on current needs and the society’s capacity to deliver services. Through the memorandum of understanding, council agreed that for the next two years no one else would be allowed to buy the property. This gives ACHES and Sanala time to determine if the property is viable. The two properties total approximately 5 acres with frontage on the Island Hwy, just south of 7015 Island Hwy.
