Comox: Public hearing for a 270 unit multi-family development.

Broadstreet Properties is moving forward with a large multi-family development along Hector and Aspen Road, with approximately 270 units in a combination of 199 apartments and 70 townhomes. As proposed, the apartments will have 110 two bed and 32 three bed, with the townhomes with 11 – 2 bed and 59 three bed. Comox has given first and second reading to an Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw, a Phased Development Agreement Bylaw, a Subdivision and Development Servicing Amendment Bylaw. A Public Hearing is scheduled for July 10 at 6 pm at 1801 Beaufort Avenue, Comox.

Cortes Island:  Funding to construct road access for the proposed Rainbow Ridge Housing project.

The Regional District has approved first through third reading to provide up to $140,000 towards constructing road access to the Rainbow Ridge Housing project on Cortes Island. The first phase of Rainbow Ridge will consist of 20-units on 6 acres on the northern edge of the property. The parcel totals 51 acres on flat, residentially zoned land, within a five-minute walk of central Mansons Landing. Consideration of adoption will proceed following receipt of written consent from the director for Electoral Area B.

Port Hardy: NI Seniors Housing Foundation and Rotary Seniors Housing looking at new housing options.

Since their BC Housing application was declined in 2021, the North Island Seniors Housing Foundation’s (NISHF) continues to look at alternatives for seniors and elders housing units in Port Hardy. Now, the foundation is partnering with Rotary Seniors Housing, which operates the Hardy Bay Rotary Seniors Lodge on Rupert Street. The Rupert Street property has room for another development, but requires some zoning changes. District council received the formal request to make legislative changes allowing the project to go ahead. They voted in favour of a new memorandum of understanding with the society to investigate developing the site over the next few years.
