Port Alberni, Comox Valley, and Campbell River: Tenders for North Island College Construction Services under $200,000

North Island College has issued three requests for proposals for general Construction Services for projects under $200,000 at the Port Alberni, Comox Valley, and Campbell River Campuses. The request includes other buildings situated on each of the campuses. In Campbell River, one of the projects will include the current Forest Circle Daycare Centre building. The term for services will be for three years, with an opportunity to extend for two additional two year terms. The tenders close August 1.

Courtenay: proposed 104 unit rental building

Council has given third reading to a proposed Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment to support the development of 104 purpose built rentals at 120/125 11th Street and 1128 Beckensell Avenue adjacent to the Puntledge River. The purpose of the OCP amendment is to designate a piece of municipal owned land as Urban Corridor. Currently this land has no designation under the OCP. The land was initially acquired by the city in 1945 and historically has been treated interchangeably as highway or statutory right of way. If the OCP amendment is approved, it is expected the applicant will then acquire this land as part of the rezoning process. As proposed, the applicant intends to build a 4-storey purpose built rental apartment building, elevated above an at grade parking lot with 104 units for rental accommodation with various unit types.

Comox: over 750 apartments, condos and townhomes units proposed on three properties

A public hearing will be held Wednesday, July 10 at 6pm at d’Esterre House in Comox to consider input regarding a proposed new bylaw to designate land uses for a multi-family and neighborhood commercial development. Highstreet has submitted applications to the Town of Comox for a major development that, when completed, will include 780 multi-family apartment and condo units, 2,000 sq.m of commercial space, and 36 townhomes. The apartments will include studios, one, two and three-bedroom units. This project will take place on three separate parcels of land located along Hector Road and Aspen Road. The design of the properties will include a wildlife corridor across all three parcels. The applicant has agreed to pay $780,000 to the affordable housing initiative for Phase 1 and $100,000 towards a playground amenity.
