Tofino: Island Health is seeking three separate engineering firms for a three storey building.

Island Health has issued three separate Request for Proposals for Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Firms for the design and construct a Daycare (ground floor) with Staff accommodations (second & third floor) on 697m2 parcel of land in Tofino currently referred to as lot A at 230 First Street. The daycare centre should be planned to the maximum group size (24 people) for Group childcare 30 months 5 years (school age). There will be stairs to be constructed to the second level for the staff accommodations. There is significant site work to do on this site and Island Health would like to consider modular construction to meet the construction completion date of Winter of 2025. Procurement for construction services is expected to commence late Spring 2025. All three requests close August 21st. For documents, register at https://islandhealthfdc.bidsandtenders.ca.

Comox: Expanding town boundary for 35 duplex lots.

The applicant is proceeding with a request to incorporate three properties bordering Torrence Road, Noel Avenue, and King Road into the Town of Comox from the Comox Regional District. Council has authorized the referral of the boundary extension proposal to internal and external departments/agencies. This application will now be referred to the Province. Once the land has been incorporated into the Town of Comox, a development permit, along with zoning and subdivision applications, will be submitted. The owner plans to develop the site into 35 duplex lots, resulting in 70 additional homes. Each lot will be approximately 450 m² in size. These homes will most likely be built out by Seawind Construction.

Campbell River: Urban Containment Boundary expanded to include 120 acres for residential development.

Council adopted an Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw to expand the Urban Containment Boundary (UCB) to include 120 acres with 276 Finch Road and two properties at 0 Jubilee Parkway. Conservation covenants that are tied to the restoration of the Jubilee fen and to the existing environmental development permit have been registered on title. A Land Title Act Section 219 Restrictive Covenant has also been registered. The restrictive covenant outlines the development of a mix of housing forms that is consistent with the City’s Housing Needs Assessment and limits access to Finch Road to emergency vehicles only. The OCP amendment is for the expansion of the UCB only and does not currently include any redesignation for residential development, rezoning or any development concept. Future OCP and zoning amendments will be required for development to occur on the subject lands.
