Port Alberni:  tender released for hospital elevator replacement

Island Health is seeking quotes from general contractors for elevator replacement at the West Coast General Hospital. The project includes all requirements to replace the two hospitals hydraulic elevators (public and freight), which are at the end of their life cycle, with new electric traction elevators including all required modifications and upgrades. The tender closes December 10.

Campbell River: proposed 65 unit, six storey mixed-use building

Broadstreet Properties has submitted a Major Development Permit for a 6-storey mixed-use building with ground-floor commercial space fronting Cedar Street and 65 residential units in the 5-story building above. In August, the City announced they were selling the property to Alder Heights Holdings Ltd. for $1,646,000. All subtrades can inquire through Seymour Pacific.

Campbell River: asbestos disposal resumes

The local asbestos disposal issue has been resolved with Northwin Environmental Ltd (Northwin) meeting the requirements set by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (Ministry) and resuming acceptance of asbestos waste at their facility in Campbell River as of October 14. A temporary suspension of asbestos disposal operations in March 2024 led to the exploration of alternative disposal solutions to mitigate environmental and public health risks. During the suspension, 105 loads (270,615 kg) of asbestos waste were safely disposed of at Regional District of Nanaimo facilities between April 26, 2024, to October 11, 2024, highlighting the importance of ensuring accessible asbestos disposal options to mitigate the potential for illegal dumping of asbestos-containing material.
