The Construction Prompt Payment Act received Royal Assent on November 27, 2025, but has not yet come into force. The BC Ministry of Infrastructure is reviewing feedback from a stakeholder discussion paper that closed on July 7, 2026, and has not announced an implementation date.
The BC Construction Association (BCCA), is urging the government to finalize the regulations without exemptions or further delays, stating the legislation will strengthen B.C.’s construction industry.
Of particular concern to the association are the ongoing financial pressures across the construction industry from delayed payment, and the need for greater national consistency and harmonization across Canada’s construction industry.
The discussion paper makes a number of recommendations reflecting collective industry experience, research into other Canadian jurisdictions, and legal review. The BCCA supports a clear, comprehensive, and practical direction to support consistent application of prompt payment legislations across the industry.
