Port Alberni: building permit issued for first new hotel since 1980
A building permit with a value of $14,254,300 has been issued for this project. The city issued a development permit for the city’s first new hotel since 1980 in February of 2025. Three local First Nations — Tseshaht, Hupacasath and Huu-ay-aht — have partnered to build a Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Port Alberni. As proposed, the hotel will be a four-storey building with 76 rooms, a pool and a waterslide, located in front of the Walmart on Johnston Road.
Campbell River: proposed 84 unit townhome rental complex
A phased multi-unit townhome housing project has been proposed for the corner of Petersen Road and Douglas Road. The multi-unit and purpose-built rental development will span two existing residential lots totaling 2.64 acres, and include 84 units, offering one-, and two-bedroom units. As proposed, there will be 9 two storey buildings, with 6 four-plexes and 3 six-plexes. Each building will have suite on the ground level and a suite upstairs. Parking will be available in front of each unit, with no garages. A Development Application Form and Zoning Amendment Pre-Application were submitted to the City in December 2026. In order to proceed, the properties will require rezoning from RM-1 to RM-3.
Cortes Island: proposed restaurant at the Gorge Harbour Marina Resort
The Klahoose First Nation recently secured a $1 million grant to rebuild a new restaurant on the site of the former Floathouse, at the Gorge Harbour Marina Resort. The original Floathouse Restaurant was permanently closed and demolished in early 2023 due to structural issues. Supported by a $1 million Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program grant, the new facility is projected to open in 2027 and feature an “elevated” menu showcasing local coastal foods.
