Port Alberni: Tseshaht First Nation seeking Design Built team for Multiplex.

Tseshaht First Nation invites qualified Design‑Build teams to submit a Statement of Qualifications for the design and construction of the Tseshaht Multiplex, a culturally grounded, multipurpose community facility on Tseshaht IR1. The Multiplex will replace the aging Maht Mahs Gymnasium, which is at the end of its lifecycle and no longer meets community needs for safety, accessibility, cultural appropriateness, or capacity. The RFQ is the first stage of a two-stage procurement process to evaluate Proponents’ experience, capacity, and approach. No pricing information is requested or permitted at this stage. Only Proponents who successfully pre-qualify will be invited to participate in a subsequent Request for Proposals. The tender closes on May 19.

Powell River: Council rezoning city-owned property for future multi-unit residential developments.

Council’s intends to consider first reading of a zoning bylaw that would amend the zoning of two split-zone parcels of City-owned property at 7104 Barnet Street. The intention is to pre-zone newly created lots as a proactive measure to support and encourage future multi-unit residential development. The current zoning of both parcels is split, with Institutions (NT) zoning on the northern portions of the parcels and Park and Playing Fields (PK) on the southern portions. The existing uses on the north portions of the properties comply with the Institutions (NT) zone, which permits non-commercial purposes by government, an organization or a society. This initiative proposes to subdivide the existing two parcels into four lots and rezone two of the newly created lots from Parks and Playing Fields (PK) and Institutions (NT) to Multiple Family Residential Five (RM5). The RM5 zoning accommodates high-density apartment development and permits apartment buildings, home based businesses, accessory buildings and uses, and childcare centres located within non-residential space in multi-unit residential developments. The RM5 zone supports smaller, purpose-built rental housing, aimed to increase supply, support affordability and align with the objectives of the SOCP to direct growth to compact, serviceable locations. As this zoning would be in alignment with the SCOP, a public hearing is prohibited. Efforts to see multi-family residential development on this property began in 2022. This property is currently the site of the existing RCMP detachment.
