Campbell River: Building permit issued for Arizona Heights
A Building Permit for duplex units 21 and 22 was issued last month for $850,000. Four units in this 28 unit project are currently listed for sale, with prices steady from $699,900 to $784,900. The overall project includes 22 single-level, duplex-style patio homes and six two-storey duplex-style townhomes. Two units listed for $699,900 and $734,900 are both 1503 sq.ft. with 3 bed and 2 bath. The two units listed for $784,900 are both 2366 sq.ft. with 3 bed and 3 bath. Each unit features a natural gas fireplace, quartz countertops, heat pump, double garage pre-wired for electric vehicles, a full six-piece appliance package, blinds, and fully landscaped yard with irrigation and fencing. BC Assessment has recorded four completed sales as of June 2026.
Port Alberni: Planning for new Youth Health & Wellness Centre
Plans are advancing for the development of a new Foundry Port Alberni youth health and wellness centre in the former Boy’s Project building on Anderson Avenue. Led by ADAPS Youth & Family Services, the project will redevelop the existing building into an approximately 6,800-square-foot centre providing integrated health and support services for youth aged 12 to 24. The facility will bring primary and physical health care, mental health and substance-use services, peer support, social services and youth programming together under one roof. ADAPS has secured federal and provincial funding for the project and is undertaking a local fundraising campaign, with an initial goal of raising $750,000. Waymark Architecture has been involved in developing the design concepts for the centre, which were unveiled earlier this year following engagement with local youth. The project has now reached the permitting stage, with ADAPS confirming that a building permit application has been submitted to the City of Port Alberni. The organization has also requested municipal assistance with the associated permit costs as the project moves into its next phase.
Powell River: Tender awarded for Seawalk Restoration Project
Council has awarded the tender for the Seawalk Restoration Project to Hazelwood Construction in the amount of $819,513.36 (excluding GST). A total of 4 compliant bids were received. The total estimated budget for this project is $1,530,000. Original Class B estimate included a total estimated construction cost of $1,091,340 in 2025 dollars, excluding engineering design or construction support, remaining environmental and archaeological services. Based upon the results of Tender and other estimated remaining costs, City Staff anticipate significant project savings in the range of $200k-$250k. This project was divided into two phases, with Phase 1 including all critical work and Phase 2 optional work. As defined in the tender, Phase 1 work includes: restoration of approximately 370 metres of shoreline rock embankment and associated intertidal areas, resurfacing approximately 1,350 metres of the gravel pathway, placement of approximately 5,000 cubic metres of imported riprap, and installation of temporary trail signage. Archaeological work identified archaeologically significant features and as a result a section of the Seawalk was redesigned to avoid the area of impact. This project is primarily funded through the Powell River Community Forest. Staff will be submitted an application to Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Local Impact Stream. If approved, this grant opportunity could potentially cover up to 50% of remaining eligible project costs.
